This summer, the New Century Chamber Orchestra embarks on its second European tour since Daniel Hope became Music Director. Drawing on music from programs performed throughout the 2022-23 season, nine of the ten performances feature Ukrainian pianist Alexey Botvinov and Hope in Tan Dun’s Double Concerto, and the rotating repertoire also includes iconic film music: Bernard Herrmann’s music from Hitchcock’s Vertigo and selected film scores by Ennio Morricone, both arranged by Paul Bateman; Gershwin’s American in Paris arranged by Clarice Assad; and John Williams’s “With Malice Toward None” from the film Lincoln. Max Richter’s Vivaldi: The Four Seasons – Recomposed; Britten’s Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge; Duke Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady”; and Kurt Weill’s Orchestral Suite from The Threepenny Opera.
Tour dates include Bremen (June 10), Braunschweig (June 11), Cologne (June 14), Dresden (June 17), Essen (June 18), the Schleswig Holstein Musik Festival in Elmshorn (June 20), the Festpiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in Wismar (June 22), Stolpe an der Peene (June 23), Fleesensee (June 24), and the Rheingau Musik Festival in Wiesbaden (June 25).
